Jean Simmons acted simultaneously in two films in 1946. At Denham Studios she played Ophelia in Laurence Olivier’s black and white Hamlet (above left). Four miles away at Pinewood Studios, she played Kanchi in Michael Powell’s Technicolor Black Narcissus (above right). Her two roles convey the antithetical qualities of monochrome and color movies. |
