Stella Dallas (1937), dir. King Vidor

In this silent-era small town movie theater lovingly recreated, before the screen the piano tinkles. Stella (Barbara Stanwyck) sighs and snuggles against the man (John Boles) she soon will marry. On screen, she espies her own dream.
When eventually she rises, she passes towards her fate like thread behind a needle.
